Heavy-duty Diesel Mechanic

Job Summary


We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered heavy equipment and vehicles, such as self-loaders and swamp buggies.
This role requires a strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air brakes, and electrical components.


Key Responsibilities


Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical problems in heavy-duty diesel engines.
Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, and brake servicing.
Conduct engine overhauls, transmission repairs, and other major repairs.
Maintain and repair hydraulic, suspension, and air brake systems.
Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify issues.
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and company standards.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members regarding vehicle status and repair timelines.
Ability to forecast preventive and prompt corrective maintenance should be an added advantage


Qualifications


SSCE, BSc, Technical, or trade test preferred.
5+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic of heavy-duty vehicles/equipment.
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be an added advantage
Strong understanding of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and braking systems.
Proficient with diagnostic software and tools.
Ability to read technical manuals and schematics.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
