Job Title: OpenMRS Software Specialist Freejob posting
Location: Abuja
Employment Type: Full-time or Contract
Sector: Digital Health / Health Information Systems / Electronic Medical Records Job Summary
Hayok Medicare is seeking an experienced OpenMRS Software Specialist to support the configuration, deployment, integration and optimization of OpenMRS-based Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems across healthcare facilities in Nigeria and potentially other African countries. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience implementing and configuring OpenMRS in real healthcare environments, with a strong understanding of workflows at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of care.
The successful candidate will configure and customize OpenMRS to reflect clinical and administrative workflows across PHCs, general/secondary hospitals and tertiary/teaching hospitals. Responsibilities will include configuring patient registration, clinical documentation, consultations, laboratory, pharmacy, nursing, inpatient and outpatient services, referrals, appointments, billing/insurance and reporting workflows as applicable. The specialist will work with clinicians, hospital administrators and technical teams to translate facility requirements into functional OpenMRS configurations and workflows. The role will also involve developing and modifying forms, concepts, metadata, reports and dashboards; configuring user roles and access permissions; supporting interoperability with other digital health systems; troubleshooting system issues; and supporting deployment, upgrades, testing and optimization. Experience integrating OpenMRS with laboratory systems, DHIS2, insurance/claims platforms, APIs or other hospital information systems will be an advantage. The specialist will also support data migration from existing systems, user acceptance testing, documentation, training of healthcare workers and ICT teams, and post-deployment technical support.
Required Experience and Competencies
Applicants should have demonstrable practical experience with OpenMRS implementation, configuration or development and preferably experience deploying OpenMRS within hospitals or public-sector health programmes. Strong candidates should have experience with several of the following: OpenMRS configuration and administration; OpenMRS Reference Application/O3; Java; JavaScript/React; REST APIs; MySQL; Linux/server administration; Git; Docker; interoperability standards such as HL7/FHIR; DHIS2 integration; clinical terminology and concept management; data migration; reporting; and healthcare workflow configuration. Experience configuring systems for tertiary hospitals with multiple departments and complex patient journeys will be particularly valuable. Applicants should understand how workflows differ between a PHC, secondary hospital and tertiary/teaching hospital and be able to configure OpenMRS accordingly rather than simply installing a standard OpenMRS instance.
A degree or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Health Informatics, Information Systems or a related field is desirable. At least 3 years of relevant digital health/EMR experience is preferred, although exceptional candidates with substantial hands-on OpenMRS experience will be considered. Experience working with Nigerian healthcare facilities, government health programmes or large-scale digital health deployments will be an advantage.
