Conduct regular system checks and inspections to ensure optimal performance and identify irregularities early. Record key parameters such as pressures, temperatures, fuel/lube oil levels, and generator loads.

Preventive Maintenance & Repairs:

Assist in executing the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and report completed maintenance tasks to the Chief Engineer. Perform lubrication, filter changes, pump servicing, and replacement of worn-out components. Troubleshoot minor machinery breakdowns and assist with emergency mechanical repairs at sea.

Safety, Compliance & Environmental Practices:

Follow environmental protection procedures in compliance with MARPOL regulations (bilge discharge, OWS, incinerator use). Participate in emergency drills and maintain readiness for fire, flooding, and system failure incidents. Assist in ensuring all engine room operations are conducted with strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE usage.

Technical Support & Documentation:

Maintain accurate engine room logs and assist in preparing technical reports. Support the Chief Engineer in spare parts inventory control and ordering. Ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and hazard-free condition of the engine room.

Team Collaboration:

Supervise Oiler and Engine Ratings under the Chief Engineer’s direction. Provide training and hands-on instruction where necessary. Report promptly to the Chief Engineer on any irregularities or potential issues.

Candidate Specification

Experience:

Minimum 2–3 years of sea time in engine department roles, with at least 1 year as a qualified 2nd Engineer or equivalent. Experience working on ASD tugboats, offshore support vessels, or coastal tugs is highly desirable. Familiarity with:
