Service Engineer

Job Overview


Husk is in search of a Service Engineer to take charge of ensuring the optimal and secure operation of generation, transmission, and distribution equipment (including within customer premises). This role requires a solid understanding of electrical engineering, as well as the ability to conduct safety and environmental inspections and preventive maintenance within Husk Power Plants.

Primary Duties

General:


Conduct daily monitoring of HMGs at Meters and System Portal.
Ensure maximum power quality, availability, and reliability of the plant, and guarantee efficient functioning of all connections at customer premises.
Perform all preventative and corrective maintenance on the plant while adhering to all HSE procedures.
Create tickets for OEMs and follow up for prompt rectification.
Keep an event log at HMG plants.
Perform health check-ups and maintenance of plants.
Instruct site electricians on system operation and maintenance.
Collaborate closely with customer teams to deliver high-quality service.
Ensure timely new customer connections as per SOP.
Oversee and regulate diesel consumption of generators.
Plan for spares and prevent shortages of spares & consumables.
Carry out diesel engine overhauling, maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of mechanical & electrical issues.
Actively seek opportunities to enhance skills and capabilities.


Plant Operations:


Play a crucial role as a member of the Mini-Grids Operations and Maintenance team in planning and monitoring daily plant operations to ensure smooth progress.
Comprehend and manage site performance according to key performance metrics.


Asset Management:


Complete technical documents, including grid outages, onsite equipment problems, log entries, site visitation, and safety and environmental inspections.
Maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly equipment health checklists; plan preventive maintenance and shutdowns; keep daily reading logbooks, etc.


Career Advancement Opportunity:



Successful Service Engineers have the potential to advance to an Area Service Manager and a senior management position with increased responsibility and compensation within 36-48 months.



Qualifications

Essential Skills & Attributes:


Technical background with an understanding of electrical engineering (minimum education requirement: Diploma in Engineering)
5+ years of experience (Infrastructure and Solar/Telecom industries preferred)
2+ years of experience managing a team of 5+ individuals.
Possess a learning mindset and eagerness to deliver hands-on solutions in the field.
Problem-solving ability with the capacity to swiftly identify issues and potential solutions.
Capability to execute based on direct instruction and under guidance from other team members.
Comfortable working in (and living around) rural Nigeria and in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment.
