The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the hotel, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cost control, proper budgeting, regulatory compliance, and sound financial management. The role involves monitoring revenue, expenses, payroll, purchasing, inventory, accounts payable and receivable, cash management, and financial performance while providing management with reliable information for business decision-making.
Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the hotel. Prepare and monitor annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans. Ensure accurate recording and reporting of all hotel financial transactions. Monitor the hotel's revenue, expenses, profitability, and cash flow. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management. Analyse financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement. Maintain proper accounting records in accordance with approved accounting standards and hotel policies.
Monitor daily hotel revenue from Rooms, Food & Beverage, Events, Conference, Laundry, Spa, Gym, Bar, and other revenue-generating departments. Review daily revenue reports and ensure that all transactions are properly captured. Reconcile income from POS, hotel management systems, online bookings, bank payments, and cash collections. Investigate revenue discrepancies and ensure timely resolution.
Monitor hotel operating expenses and ensure spending remains within approved budgets. Review departmental expenses and identify areas of unnecessary expenditure. Establish and maintain effective cost-control procedures. Monitor food and beverage costs, beverage consumption, wastage, and inventory variances. Work closely with the Procurement and Stores departments to ensure proper purchasing and stock-control procedures.
Supervise the processing of supplier invoices and payments. Ensure that all supplier invoices are properly approved before payment. Monitor outstanding guest and corporate accounts. Follow up on overdue receivables and ensure timely collection. Reconcile supplier and customer accounts regularly. Maintain accurate records of all hotel liabilities and receivables.
Review monthly payroll before final approval and processing. Ensure salaries, allowances, deductions, taxes, and statutory contributions are accurately calculated. Monitor staffing costs against the approved payroll budget. Work with Human Resources to ensure accurate employee records and payroll information.
Coordinate internal and external financial audits. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and statutory requirements. Maintain proper documentation for financial transactions. Implement effective internal controls to prevent fraud, errors, and financial losses. Investigate financial irregularities and report significant issues to management.
Prepare management accounts and financial performance reports. Provide financial analysis and recommendations to the General Manager and management team. Track key financial indicators such as:
Revenue Gross profit Net profit Food cost Beverage cost Payroll cost Operating expenses Cash flow Accounts receivable Accounts payable
Provide financial information to support strategic and operational decisions.

Strong knowledge of revenue and cost control. Good understanding of hotel operations. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong leadership and team-management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong negotiation and decision-making skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines. High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism. Good knowledge of accounting software and hotel management systems. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Ability to analyse financial data and prepare management reports.
Minimum of 5–8 years of relevant accounting or financial management experience, preferably within the hospitality industry. Previous experience in a hotel, resort, restaurant, or hospitality group is strongly preferred. Minimum of 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial finance position. Experience with hotel accounting systems, POS systems, PMS, and financial reporting software. Practical experience in:
Hotel revenue auditing Cost control Budget preparation Payroll Inventory control Accounts payable and receivable Bank reconciliation Financial reporting Internal and external audits.
