 Job Title: Head, Corporate Tax

The role will serve as the primary authority on corporate tax matters across the group, strategically lead, direct, and manage all tax functions across the group, shaping policies that enhance fiscal responsibility, minimize exposure to tax risks, ensuring full compliance with statutory tax obligations, while optimizing tax efficiency through proactive planning, effective management, and strategic advisory to top management and the Board as well as support the Group's strategic financial goals.

Job Functions

Formulate and implement the Group's overall tax strategy in line with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements. Lead strategic tax planning initiatives to optimize tax efficiency. Provide direction on the design and implementation of tax policies and governance frameworks. Oversee accurate and timely filing of all statutory tax returns (CIT, VAT, PAYE, WHT, Stamp Duties, etc.). Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local tax regulations, including FIRS, LIRS, and other relevant bodies. Supervise group-wide tax audits, inquiries, and investigations, ensuring minimal exposure and professional representation. Develop and maintain tax risk registers and ensure effective controls to mitigate tax exposure. Provide expert tax advice on mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and investment transactions. Support management in evaluating tax implications of new projects, financing structures, and international transactions. Liaise with external tax consultants, auditors, and legal advisers on complex tax matters. Lead, mentor, and develop the Group Tax Team to build internal tax capabilities across subsidiaries. Maintain a strong relationship with regulatory authorities and represent the Group in tax-related forums. Maintain accurate tax records, schedules, and reconciliations for internal and external audits. Keep management informed of new tax laws, regulatory changes, and emerging fiscal trends impacting the Group. Prepare periodic tax compliance and performance reports to the Board and Executive Management as well as advice on the tax implications of business decisions, investments, and corporate transactions.

Job Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related discipline. Master's degree in Taxation, Finance, or Business Administration is an added advantage. Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) – Mandatory. Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or ACCA – Mandatory. Additional certification in International Taxation or Transfer Pricing – Desirable. Minimum of 15 years post-graduation experience, with at least 8 years in senior tax management roles within a group or multinational environment. Proven record of strategic tax leadership, managing audits, tax planning, and compliance for complex business entities. Deep knowledge of Nigerian and international tax laws, regulations, and practices. Strong analytical skills in tax planning, risk assessment, and compliance monitoring. Expertise in tax accounting and financial reporting under IFRS. Practical experience in handling FIRS/LIRS audits, reconciliations, and dispute resolutions. Proficiency in ERP systems, tax management software, and Microsoft Office tools. Ability to manage complex, multi-subsidiary tax structures. Strategic leadership; high level of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism; stakeholder management; communication and influence.
