Job Summary
We are seeking a competent, safety-conscious, and responsible Junior Generator Operator to join the team responsible for the operation and monitoring of diesel and gas-powered generator sets within our manufacturing facility.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience operating industrial generators and a good understanding of generator start-up and shutdown procedures, routine checks, operating parameters, basic troubleshooting, and safe operating practices.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of senior technical personnel to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant's power generation systems.
Key Responsibilities & Competencies
Operate diesel and gas generator sets in accordance with established operating procedures.
Carry out proper generator start-up, synchronization, loading, unloading, and shutdown procedures as applicable.
Monitor generator operating parameters, including:
Engine speed/RPM
Voltage and frequency
Current and load
Engine temperature
Oil pressure
Battery voltage
Fuel level
Other relevant engine and generator parameters
Conduct routine pre-start and operational checks on generators and associated equipment.
Monitor generator performance during operation and promptly report abnormal conditions, alarms, or unusual sounds and vibrations.
Carry out basic operator-level troubleshooting and escalate faults beyond the operator's responsibility to the appropriate technical personnel.
Monitor diesel fuel and gas supply and report any abnormal consumption, leakage, or supply issues.
Maintain accurate generator operating logs, including running hours, load, fuel usage, alarms, shutdowns, and other relevant operating information.
Ensure generators are operated within their recommended operating limits and avoid unnecessary overloading or prolonged abnormal operation.
Assist with generator changeover and power supply operations as directed by the responsible technical personnel.
Assist maintenance personnel during routine servicing, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs when required.
Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping around generator rooms, fuel systems, and associated equipment.
Immediately report fuel, oil, gas, coolant, or exhaust leaks and other unsafe conditions.
Follow established procedures for the safe handling and operation of diesel and gas generator systems.
Comply with all plant safety procedures, permit-to-work requirements, isolation/LOTO procedures, and applicable electrical and mechanical safety requirements.
Support senior generator operators and technical personnel during planned shutdowns, emergency situations, and maintenance activities.
Perform other duties related to generator operation and plant utility support as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
OND, NCE, technical qualification, or relevant vocational/trade certification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
1–2 years' practical experience operating diesel and/or gas generators, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or process plant environment.
Basic knowledge of diesel and gas generator operation and control systems.
Ability to read and understand basic generator operating parameters and alarm indications.
Basic understanding of electrical concepts such as voltage, current, frequency, power, and load.
Basic knowledge of engine systems, including lubrication, cooling, fuel, starting, and exhaust systems.
Ability to carry out routine operator checks and identify abnormal operating conditions.
Good record-keeping, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively under the supervision of senior technical personnel and as part of a team.
Must be willing to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays where required.
Must be willing to relocate to Ibeju-Lekki.
SalaryN200,000 per month (Gross Salary).
N168,000 per month (Net Salary).
