We are seeking a competent and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Scientist with experience in Chemical Pathology to join our laboratory team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing and validating biochemical investigations, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of results, and maintaining high standards of laboratory quality and patient care.

Perform routine and specialized Chemical Pathology investigations, including glucose, renal function, liver function, lipid profile, electrolytes, cardiac markers, thyroid function tests and other biochemical assays. Receive, identify, process and analyse patient specimens in accordance with established laboratory procedures. Operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory analysers and other relevant equipment. Validate and accurately document laboratory results before reporting. Identify and promptly communicate critical or abnormal results to the appropriate clinical team. Perform internal quality control procedures and participate in external quality assurance programmes. Ensure proper handling, storage and disposal of specimens and laboratory materials. Maintain accurate laboratory records, worksheets, registers and electronic documentation. Monitor reagent usage, expiry dates and inventory levels and report shortages promptly. Troubleshoot equipment and analytical issues and escalate unresolved technical problems appropriately. Adhere strictly to laboratory SOPs, infection prevention and control procedures, safety standards and regulatory requirements. Participate in laboratory audits, quality improvement initiatives and continuous professional development activities. Collaborate effectively with other Medical Laboratory Scientists, Pathologists, clinicians and other healthcare professionals. Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times. Perform any other duties assigned by the Laboratory Manager or Head of Department.

Educational Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) from a recognised institution. Must be registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN). Possession of a valid practising licence is required. Additional certification or training in Chemical Pathology, laboratory quality management or related areas will be an advantage.

Minimum of 2 years’ relevant post-qualification experience in Chemical Pathology or a clinical laboratory setting. Experience working with automated chemistry analysers and other relevant laboratory equipment. Experience with laboratory quality control, calibration and quality assurance procedures. Experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory environment is an added advantage.

Strong knowledge of Chemical Pathology principles and laboratory procedures. Proficiency in operating automated and semi-automated laboratory analysers. Good analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Good knowledge of laboratory quality control and assurance practices. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet turnaround-time requirements. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency in laboratory information systems and basic computer applications. Strong commitment to patient safety and quality service delivery.

Must possess a valid MLSCN practising licence. Must demonstrate professional integrity, reliability and attention to detail. Must be willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required. Must comply with all hospital policies, laboratory SOPs and regulatory requirements. Must maintain strict confidentiality of patient and organisational information. Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced healthcare environment.
