Metallurgist and Materials Engineer  Offshore

Ereyi Ventures Nigeria Limited is an indigenous Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Logistics (EPCL) contractor providing integrated technical services to the Nigerian oil and gas industry. The company brings a multidisciplinary team of engineering, inspection, and construction professionals to deliver brownfield and greenfield projects across onshore and offshore facilities, with a focus on asset integrity, tank and vessel upgrades, mechanical and instrumentation works, and terminal automation. Leveraging local content expertise alongside international codes and standards (API, ASME, NACE/AMPP, and IEC), Ereyi Ventures is positioned to execute the Automated Crude Oil Storage Tanks Upgrade and Repair Services at an offshore terminal, combining indigenous capacity with the technical rigour required for safety-critical hydrocarbon storage infrastructure. Provide specialist materials, corrosion, welding, and failure-analysis support to ensure that tank and piping repairs achieve the required integrity and service life.

Core Roles and Responsibilities

Provide specialist materials engineering support for tank shell, floor, and piping repairs, including material selection for sour service (H2S/CO2-containing crude) in accordance with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156. Conduct failure analysis and root-cause investigation on corroded, cracked, or otherwise degraded tank components, including metallurgical sampling and laboratory testing coordination. Review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for metallurgical suitability, including hardness testing requirements for sour service welds. Perform Positive Material Identification (PMI) program oversight to verify correct alloy grades are used throughout fabrication and repair activities. Assess corrosion mechanisms (general, pitting, microbiologically influenced corrosion, under-deposit corrosion) affecting the storage tanks and recommend mitigation strategies. Support the API 653 Tank Inspector and API 510 Inspector with metallurgical interpretation of NDT findings and remaining life assessments. Review coating and cathodic protection system compatibility with substrate materials to prevent galvanic or coating-related corrosion issues. Prepare technical materials engineering reports and provide expert testimony/justification for repair method selection to client technical authorities.

Qualifications and Requirements

Material selection errors in sour crude service can cause sudden, unpredicted failure; this role has correspondingly stringent entry requirements.

B.Eng./M.Sc. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering — a Master's degree or higher is mandatory for this role; Bachelor's-only candidates will not be considered regardless of experience length. Ten (10) years of post-graduation experience in materials/metallurgical engineering within the oil & gas sector, with a minimum of five (5) years specifically addressing sour service materials selection and corrosion failure analysis. Mandatory, demonstrable working expertise in NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 sour service material qualification — candidates must be able to independently determine material suitability for a given H2S partial pressure scenario during a live technical assessment. COREN registration as a full member is mandatory; NACE/AMPP Corrosion Technologist or Cathodic Protection Specialist certification is required as an additional, non-substitutable qualification. Demonstrated, verifiable hands-on experience with failure analysis techniques including metallography, SEM/EDS interpretation, hardness testing, and fractography — a portfolio of at least three prior failure investigation reports must be available for review (client-sensitive data may be redacted, technical content may not). Proven experience reviewing and qualifying WPS/PQRs from a metallurgical standpoint for a minimum of five prior projects, independently verifiable via named client references. Minimum five (5) years offshore/marine terminal-specific experience, with direct exposure to marine atmospheric corrosion and seawater-adjacent cathodic protection interactions. Valid BOSIET/HUET, offshore medical fitness certificate, and readiness for rotational offshore deployment as required by project schedule. Must pass a rigorous written technical assessment covering sour service material selection, corrosion mechanism identification, and PMI methodology.
